2010 NR Area 4 Camporee

Postby wagionvigil » Tue Feb 10, 2009 8:04 am

The 10 Councils that make up NR Area 4 will have an Area Camporee in September of 2010. It will be held at Moraine State Park off of I 79 Butler PA. Two NJ were held there in the 1970's. This will be an allscouts event Cubs, Scouts, Crews and Sea Scouts. The hope is 5-10K will attend.

Sounds great! I'm sure our troop will be there.

The only problem I can see with an Area IV Camporee being held that time of year is Western PA's second religion. High School Football! I have plenty of kids involved with football and other activities and sports. But Friday night football is king, especially in my town. But I am planning on attending.

All councils have fall camporees. This replaces those as agreed upon by the council executives.

Actually, Bucktail hasn't had a fall camporee since I have moved back to the council territory in 2005. I was just wondering if that might be bad timing because of Western PA's obsession with HS Football.

I am wrong about my facts. Bucktail Council has not had a Fall Camporee since 2005. I can not remember if there has been a Council/District Camporee either. Maybe in 2 of the 3 old Districts. But since the District merger, there has not been a very well organized Camporee. My Troop got the information maybe about 4-6 weeks before the event. We produce an annual calendar and the boys wanted to do what they had scheduled versus what the "District" had planned. I am going to have to do some research and get my facts straight before I post anything more about this subject.

I was kicking that idea around. Is this going to be open to all program levels (Cubs and Venturers)?

I should learn to read the beginning of a post. Sorry about that. I just read that this was open to Packs/Crews. My bad

Total Scout Everyone. I have another idea I am going to suggest but it will probably not fly. Invite members of that other organization

I think that would be most appropriate. Why shouldn't that "other organization" come? I would wholeheartedly agree to that!

I will be talking to you. Each council is in charge of something from what I heard. GPC is doing program. So I will be talking to some folks there and see where you can fit in to help. Ask your CE what Bucktail is doing? The 10 Council Execs have discussed this.

I know the Council Commish sent me an e-mail mentioning this. I am not sure who is going to be in charge of what. I would personally be scared if they come up with some of the ideas that they did at the Polar Bear Camporee!

Here is a wacky idea. Why not have an all "PA" Camporee? There are 2 former jambo sites in PA, one at Valley Forge and Morraine State Park. You could rotate between the two sides of the state and have it every so often.

One step at a time

Pleae provide a status update on the Council in NER Area 4 that has basically said "we will not be participating, nor telling our units about this event."

Will this Council even approve a Tour Permit for those units that do find out about it via back channels?

Which Council is it so we can reach out to our fellow Scouters and help them?

That is what I thought. I know they have some other happenings there a few weeks before. Maybe we can find out the different units from up there and just invite them. I think it also a few weeks after their Calumet Camporee. That is probably why they aren't doing much with it. Just a guess.

While I can appreciate a Council's unique and if I am reading your post correctly, special Council events, the 100th Anniversary of BSA only comes ONCE. One would think that the AHC would look outside their borders and celebrate with the entire Brothehood* of Scouting.
