Difficult question/issue.

First, make sure the BOYS set the uniform requirements for the troop.

As we all know, BSA pants (and even shorts) are very expensive. On the other hand, does the local football, baseball, basketball team let its members show up/participate in whatever clothes they want?

While uniforming is important, one would hate to lose a scout because he couldn't afford the pants (and was ashamed of that).

This has been discussed here before. Please go through the threads for the answers to your question. BSA does not require Uniforms.

I have had this issue since Cub Scouts. The scouts would wear a shirt only and jeans. the area I am from is not poor by any means. Its the parents that do not want to buy the pants mainly because of the price and the boys seem to out grow the pants first. I purchased pants for my son so did some other parents. We even ahad a uniform swap some scouts donated their old shirts and they wer passed on.

What I would like to see is a re -structuring of the pricing at the scout shop
to make the prices a little more affordable especially for thhe boys.

I would leave it up to the troop members about a uniform pants.

I am a former SPL. Talk to your PLC about it. If you don’t talk to your PLC about it then it wont happen. You should be able to address almost any topic about the troop with your PLC.
