This new one looks similar to the USMC B uniform. This is just too close to Junior ROTC uniforms for me.

Keep the new materials and design. But we really should keep the bright BSA Red.

Just my opinion. Once my uniform is no longer servicable, I will purchase what is authorized for wear because I do support the BSA. I just disagree with this change. But I can move on as I do not feel this is a change to the original principles.

Wow................big news

I haven't visited the Uniform Board in quite a while.

Thumbs down on the new uniform.
No because of the change...because of lack of color.
I can see it now...troops with some scouts in the older style and some in the newer.

I dislike the NOT red unit numerals.
Perhaps I'll order a few dozen red ones for our troop....we don't "turn" 70 until 2011.

IMHO, just an excuse for BSA Supply Division to sell more product.

OT: Our COR is 81 (and just did a 100 mile bike ride across north-east OH).
His father in-law was a professional scouter in the 1920s and 30s.
Our COR has a 100% wool uniform shirt with metal BSA buttons.
Get a lot of questions/compliments re the shirt.

FYI If you wear the New Uniform you will wear the new Subdued Numbers. The Old uniform will be sold until the inventory is depleted. The Red loops are for the Old uniform the Forest green the new uniform.

I personaly think the Uniform is more functional. It should be worn on more activities,Hikes,Camporees etc. I ordered a complete uniform from our service center last week. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind after I wear it a while. I am thinking I will like the quik Drying Nylon at the Jamboree

I like the new look as far as the pockets and material, but don't like the new color. And I REALLY REALLY REALLY DISLIKE the green epaulets and numbers!!! My Troop with their red neckerchiefs are going to look like they are dressed for Christmas! :?

I don't like the pocket on the sleeve, either. That is going to make sewing those patches on even more difficult than they were before just fighting with the sleeve!

Agree.

Perhaps it's a pocket for cigarettes.

i dont think the pocket will be that hard to sew. It looks like it is a pleated pocket.

Quick drying nylon shirt will be a benefit but I have concerns regarding the durability. I have trashed several pairs of the current switchbacks using them during hiking/backpacking. They snag very easily on thorns and will pull threads all the way out of the material. I have other nylon shorts from EMS, Columbia, North Face, etc. and never had these problems.

I like the new hats!

I will save judgement until I see the new uniform life and in person not just a picture of the new uniform.

Also I feel that the unit number SHOULD STAY THE COLOR RED

I have been told that the new Boy Scout "green" is a different shade than the Venturing "green". I haven't seen it. Can anyone confirm?

Our troop all bought extra Switchbacks just in case.

To the best of my knowledge you can always wear an older uniform. Hope we get to keep the option.

Eventually those will be gone or worn out and you will need to go the new uniform. Wait until they are out for awhile before making that decision. It may only be a flash in the pan or the Boys might really like them. I could care less what the adults think.

I believe the new switchbacks are darker in color.

Please please please, the Boy Scout's tabs will be forest green and the Venturing tabs will be spruce green, c'mon now, its not like the colors were all that close to each other, Venturing and Boy Scouts are two distinct programs in the BSA, there wont be a problem, after all we all keep the differences between a Venture Patrol and a Venturing Patrol distinct in our minds, right?

One of those patrols should be a CREW
Venturing is still wearing the green shirt so there will be no mistake.

RE: SWITCHBACKS

I agree the quality is poor. We find that there isn't enough velcro on the poskets (we loose things) and pulls occur in the fabric, and the leg zippers break and are expensive to replace. Our troop hopes the new uniform is BETTER MADE!!!
