New uniform in August

Postby wagionvigil » Wed May 14, 2008 6:34 am

BSA has designed a new uniform. It will be for sale in August.

Not "Happy" With the Change

Postby ThunderingWind » Wed May 14, 2008 7:07 am

I have seen the new uniform flyer.

And I am not "happy" or comfortable with the changes.

The color scheme selected is too close to the US Marine Corps Class-B uniform without the jacket.

Not that any one would ever mis-identify either but this change ever so slightly blurs the line.

The bright red needs to stay.

I like the switch backs, glad I took advantage of the sale. They will still be approved come August even with a new uniform.

I am sure this had nothing to do with it: http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9803E2DF123DEF3ABC4052DFB066838D609EDE&oref=slogin

Does any one have a link with a picture of the new uniform?

As we remember our woodbadge training, change happens, change is good.

Frustrating, yet happens and is good.

Uniform

Postby riverwalk » Wed May 14, 2008 12:40 pm

Haven't heard this until this thread came up. Hmmm, I figured one was coming back when they came out with the Activity shirt. Is it like that? Meanwhile, I'm still searching for my adult size version of the old green uniform. Ebay hasn't helped with the right sizes yet, but I'm watching, haha.

Thoughts on this design
1. I find it more functional and maybe more used. I like the shirt design and the pants are more like what I buy from REI
2.I do have issue with green loops for scouts. WHAT ARE THEY DOING FOR VENTURING??
3.Change is good. It is about time we have this. The old design is over 20 year old.
4. What are the plans on phasing out the old uniform? Or is this a special uniform just for the 100th Anniversary?
5. I will place my order in July. I was going to get a couple of new shirts so now I will wait.
Those that have seen it please feel free to comment but remember just like you learned in wood badge things change and change like it or not usually has a positive outcome.
Actually I have shirts like that and pants like that just not BSA supplied. I wear zip offs or shorts all the time and I have shirts like that to fish and hike. ETC!

How 'bout you put it over on the wiki? And we can make a page for it and post an announcement on the Current Events, too.

I was going to buy a couple of new shirts, as I have lost some weight and plan on losing more.

Guess I will wait until new uniforms come out.

And yes, I'd like to see what they will look like.

Yeah, I'm going to turn 18 soon, and I was going to go out to buy a new uniform like next week. Glad I saw this thread though!

Yeah me too. I've looked on Wikipedia, searched google and google images, and looked on the National website, but haven't been able to find anything about this. A link would be very nice.

Loops

Postby riverwalk » Wed May 14, 2008 7:23 pm

Perhaps (just a guess y'all understand), if the new Troop shirts will feature green loops, then maybe the Venturing program is getting away from any loops period?

Unlike Boy Scouts, there is no mandated/required uniform for venturing crews. Each crew may choose their uniform. The green shirts/green loops are very common though.

However, I do not like the green loops either or the green unit numerals on the uniform. Seems like a waste that I will need to repurchase multiple sets of these instead of using the ones off of my older uniforms. The trained patch is also green. I hope they dont get into a thing where they start redoing the uniforms every couple years.

On a positive note, I like the design of the new shirts and pants.

I have them now, but they're on an Adobe file. Any idea how I can get them on here?

Can't be done.
Some updated information though. The uniform is not replacing the old uniform BUT will be an option. But you cannot mix parts.
SO you wear either the old uniform Complete. Or the New Uniform Complete. They are also doing somthing with badges but my contact was not sure what was meant by that.
