Frank: I did a 10-day trip at Bissett in 1976 (and Atikokan in 1978).
Fantastic...we saw no other people on either trip.

Sorry to say I am only arranging the trip Bissett. :( The more I work on it, the more jealous I am of the crew. I did the Quetico out of Ely in 2007 & it was fantastic.

Mrw, what week is your troop going to Manatoc? Our troop is going there again this year. We have been going back to Manatoc for at least 15 yrs. I truly enjoy that camp. So much to offer the scouts, I hope the new dining hall will make it even better.

We did lose our usual site for some reason or another, we will be at Buena Vista week 4 (July 12-18). I do not think it will be a big issue trying a new site, but we will see!

I think they will be there the week after you will be. This will be there 11th year I think. They have the largest tent site at this point since they usually take in the neighborhhod of 30 boys. But have stayed in several others over the years as Manatoc reserves the right to shift troops to better sized sites if need be. Also because we changed weeks at some point.

This is going to be a great year at Eberly SCout Reservation Camp Conestoga. All but one week is now closed with full camps. It seems that the downturn has been an upturn for scout camps

The Summer Camp I work at has already completely filled Weeks 1-6 and there is only limited site availability for Week 7. It really has been an upturn this year. I was very surprised!

I wish I could say that about Camp Mountain Run. I love the place but the Camp is not being marketed like it should be. Mostly due to lack of effort on the part of the office. Whoops! Did I say that outloud??????

In the next couple of years you will be seeing councils closing scout camps that are not servicing X# of scouts. I know of one council camp that does not see 500 scouts a summer and you cannot operate a quality program with that small of attendance.

I am wondering about which ones. I have a good idea about two north of my present location. But I do not want to post their names. Both are beautiful camps. It is such a shame that they both do not get used as much as they do. Actually, one I am thinking of has got to have the best freshwater access for water activities in the NE region if not the entire US.

At one time, our council had four summers camps, but ended up selling one several years back. No one really knew the specifics, because to this day, many Scouters I talk to get all upset when someone brings the subject up. I have talked to a couple of folks from council and they seemed to admit the council should have never sold it.

Here are the problems you get with smallcamps.
1. QUality Staff- I am in COllege I need to earn money in the summer two or three weeks will not do it.
2. It still cost x$ to maintain the camp year round to keepit usuable,
Etc Etc.
If you have 10 councils in an area should there be 25 or 30 camps in that area?

Our Troop will be attending Camp Freedom at Heritage Scout Reservation. They are starting a High adventure program that will utilize the areas beauty and resources for the older scouts this year that should be alot of fun. Many ohter changes in store as well.
