I Don't Get To Go! :(

Postby pipestone1991 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:31 pm

Foe the first time in 8-10 years, I will not attend a summer camp (cub day camp, boy scout camp). I will be starting HS soccer the week our troop goes to camp. I'm going to miss camp sooo much! :(

In the Sam Houston Area Council there are two or three weeks that you could go to camp without your troop. It's called Supertroop, and is for scouts in your situation. You may have a conflict - soccer or family vacation - or you just want an extra week. Individual scouts sign up and are grouped under the leadership of a paid SM, and behave as if they are one troop for the entire week.

My son went one year just to get an extra week of summer camp in. He loved it. The staff (SM and ASMs) made sure the boys did all their work for all the badges so that no one came home with a bunch of partials at week's end. My son eanred six MBs.

These are offered a few times per summer at the council camps here. Check your council, or come to Texas for ours.

There is also a Trail to Eagle week, at which only Eagle-required MB's are offered.

Yeah, what he said. In some Council's it called a Provisional Troop.

Check your Council and those that are your neighbors. Soccer should not cover the entire summer.

Go as a Provisional Camper. In the past few year we have had provisional camper join the troop for summer camp. Usually we didn't know we had one or more until the troop check in. The scout and the leaders welcome them with open arms and made him a part of the troop.

I though you were going to be on staff at 7Ranges?

We'll be attending the week of Jun 15-21.
We always stay in Calumet...outpost camping.

If you would like to join us as a provisional scout (JASM), we'd certainly welcome you. Our fee is $240 ($210, if you get the early-bird discount from Buckeye Council).

If interested, have your SM, get in touch the SM from T309 (me).

I'm doing soccer instead (my other love) and start the second week of July. Have fun though! My troop (I think) is going that week! Maybe I'll see you Thursday night perhaps?

June 15-21 is the first session at 7R.

My troop does outpost camping in Calumet.
