2011 World Jamboree -- Any Rumors of Location???

Postby Billiken » Wed May 24, 2006 8:41 am

My son will miss the age cut-off for the 2007 World Jamboree by just over 5 months.

Is there any talk of where the 2011 World Jamboree might be held?

Isn't it about due to rotate back to North America?
(Hope not.)

THANKS

my son misses it by four months. Question, why is there an age limit? why not a rank instead?

There is also an age limit for the National Jamboree. Actually it is too low for those of us that have seen the result of a too young scout being there.

According to what I found on the WOSM web site, the 22nd World Scout Jamboree will be held in Sweden from July 29 - August 7, 2011. The site was approved at a WOSM meeting last September.

Age limits are set by WOSM, and are established world-wide. Keep in mind that Scouts in other countries use different methods of advancement and don't rely on Ranks, like BSA.

Fantastic!!!
A Scandanavian country is too good to be true.
I've got relatives in Denmark. (Three of them actually came to see me when I was at the 1975 World Jamboree held in Lillehammer Norway.)

Thanks for the information, Paul.

Is this were it is going to be? When I go to google and put in 22nd world jamboree 2011, I get web sites for both Sweden and Japan. If anyone has a good web site for the 2011 world jamboree could you please share it with me? Thank You.

The Japanese site was set up to promote Japan's bid to WOSM. However, the Swedes were selected by WOSM to be the hosts.

Thank you for the quick reply, I'm trying to save enough money so my son can go if he wishes to.

Each Region will be recruiting troops from each area within the region. Or Group of Areas.

It is unfortunate that we need to have these age limits. I have younger scouts that are emotionally and physically more mature than some of the older scouts. It would be nice if we could use "scoutmaster's approval" in some of these case but not all SM's have the same standards. For a 10 week jambo w/ an insanely large attendance I would agree that the minimum age is too young.

WE saw many many young scouts that could not make it at the 2001 NJ. They lowered the age at the last minute to get more participants and it was not a good thing. The Jamboree itself is 10 days not counting travel to and from plus site seeing.
