Distinguished troops, from what I have heard are ones that works so many hours at camp before summer camps starts and they have to do fundraising (pop corn and others). On the council web site they tell you that you have to contact the council to find out more about be coming a distinguished troop.

Think of it as Service Hours earning the Troop a discount. It can also save salary costs on the"Staff Week" because the Staff would nto need to be there as long.

Just thinking how this can viewed positively.......

Our Lodge does all the Work at Our Camps.Camp fees should never be linked to FOS or any other conditions. IMHO

Our council ties a lot of "rewards"/"discounts" to supporting the council.

To receive a council Philmont trek, you must earn a certain number of points, such as participating in FOS, attending council summer camps, popcorn sales, etc.

Also, same criteria was used for Jamboree slots.

Chippewa Valley in Wisconsin:
Scout: $225
Adult: $138
1 free adult for every 10 boys attending. With, of course, a minimum of 2 adults regardless of number Scouts.
