Won a Spot for Philmont in 2010

Postby mt_goodrich » Sun Dec 07, 2008 6:05 pm

Just got off cruise ship this morning and here at hotel in Tallahassee, Florida on way back to Texas.

Had email from Philmont stating we received our requested slot. We had requested two slots because we had a total of fifteen boys and six adults wanting to go. Our date is August 9th thru August 21st.

Will get packet with more information in a few weeks!!!!

Cool!

I am glad to see that some school systems still start at a reasonable date. My local schools will have been in sessions for almost a full week by the time you trip is finished.

You are really fortunate. I tried for years to get a Philmont slot without success.

We just found out that we'd hit the lottery for the 2010 Philmont excursion. Now we have to figure out how to send the boy to both Philmont and the NatJam.

Wow..that is going to be tough!

I'll do summer camp in June 2010 for younger boys and any other Scout that wants to go to camp and then will go to Philmont in August.

I know it is almost two years away, but have already let my boss know that Summer 2010, I will be scarce. He is very supportive, so it won't be a problem. Also fortunate that I have about six weeks of vacation time every year.

No, not so much the money issue but the time issue. NCAC is sending 400+ boys to the NatJam with selection being pretty much first come, first in, and my son was in the first 100 to submit paperwork to Council, so he's all but a lock for that.

The issue at play is when will this trip be. I'm laying odds the NatJam contingent will be doing prep work for the big event during the weeks prior, so this might preclude my son from going on the Philmont trip. Oh well, he's young, there will be other chances.
